About Joe

Joe was born in San Francisco in 1926. He began drawing as a small boy. Starting in high school and college he began to receive awards for his drawing and painting, this would continue throughout his life.

His fine art included oils, watercolors and mixed media. Joe illustrated more than 200 books and had twenty-eight of his own published. He also wrote and illustrated articles for various periodicals.

Joe was also a photographer. He took 16MM movies and stills of much of the United States and other parts of the world. He traveled in 35 foreign countries. During these travels he spent time gathering material for his art and evangelistic work.

He served in the Mediterranean theater during World War II, and after his discharge he continued his art education. He received a Master's degree in Art and also attended the Art Center School in Los Angeles.

Following his schooling he went from being a medical illustrator and staff illustrator at a publishing company to free-lancing and teaching art at Pacific Union College. In his later years he focused predominately on biblical illustrations and wrote and created many religious studies.

He passed away in the Spring of 2006.
